Documenting

Just before heading off to bed I quickly documented all my work from my thesis. Quite a lot to photograph but I will be adding them here sometime tomorrow. And then work on setting aside time to properly document them for portfolio use, just in time since I am going to be studying CSS/HTML/XHTML to create my website. Let's hope the next work, possibly series, does not distract me from getting this all done. Anyhow, Good Night all~

Study time~

You can not really continue into something without first understanding it's origin and how techniques. It will be a bit to go through all of these Chinese Painting books but in the end it should be worth it. I am also looking into getting a new portable easel that would make it easier for me to tilt the work space back more to utilize watercolours.
I am going to do some warm up exercises after work along side the cleaning that needs to happen in my room/studio.
I applied to The Next Big Thing that is at the same gallery as before last Thursday, hopefully I can hear back from them. I am going to finish a few things before heading off to work. Bye~

Tea and Business

Around work people are slowly understanding the effects of tea in comparison to coffee. Switching over for health reasons and to reduce caffeine intake mainly and for some enjoyment. Setting up a small set for tea at your work is simple.
Many have opted to get their own Tea master for their desk while others have chosen either a cup with infuser or a teapot. Individuality is quite apparent in their quest for the right tea ware.
Instead of getting something individual, which is okay for yourself, why not opt to get a set for large business meetings? Tea can calm the mind and aid in focusing it as well. It is much healthier (if that is a concern) than coffee and easier on the body (the caffeine goes through the blood stream and not the nervous system like coffee , leading to shakes).
If you have the time talk to your manager about setting up such a set in your kitchenette. Work on a small budget for quality leafed tea for each month. It is quite easy to set up~
What have you set up at work to enjoy the leaf?

No spring but new ware~

My picnic came too early, but this teaware makes all this snow bearable. I was originally hoping to use my cloud like yixing (meant for Tie Kwan Yin) but was not in the mood by the time I got home. I am hopeful that all this mess melts before I get back Monday morning from my parents.
Both these new pieces are from Majestic-Canada Inc. Toronto, Chinatown. I am eager to go back to get a few more pieces but I will need to wait a while before dipping into my tea/tea ware (kinda grocery) money.
After reading the article in the Leaf on tea ware mixed with non traditional ware as well as The Way of Tea, I just needed to give in and get this cup. As for the peacock feather saucer, I needed something for catching the water when I use my yixings. Both beautiful and amazingly affordable. 15$ each can't do any better than that.~

Finished work~

Took a bit to finish but it's a good start to find out how I can incorporate tea properly. Heading to my parents' this weekend so I can grab better paper amongst other things I need to grab (watercolours included). The room/studio thing is slowly compromising itself to a comfortable level. Poor Shuuhei (Kitty~) might have his cat litter moved so I can have a little cart with my supplies available. We will see how things go after my trip home~

Working away and decideing ..

My studio is small but there is no problem with that. I just need to figure out how to get the water and wash plates right next to me and have all my other equipment organized with it.
The list only starts there. How am I going to store the "Tea paint"? How often do I have to change it before it starts to ( uhhh) mold? Do I want to use watercolours in my work? Do I need thicker paper? (already know the answer: YES!) Do I want to start sizeing my paper before starting? (still a maybe) Is this all cat safe? ( My cat LOVES to get his nose into my things) Am I being catious for my own health?
So many things to go over~ I can't wait to get things together instead of in a tiny basket under my easel.

Tea Picnic- First day of Spring

After much debate Sunday afternoon if I should go to a tea house or not I opted to pack tea ware, water and lunch. Sadly my little thermos was WAY too small for my pot, note for next time: LARGER THERMOS. I think as well next time I will pack a better mat and things to make a Cha Xi (artful arangement of teaware to enhance the experience).
Either way I need to get things ready for cherry blossom viewing next month~ I am thrilled that I get to see it AND have a picnic as well.

Before you miss out an a rare oportunity head out to High Park (Toronto) and make a day of it! I personally will be going there alone or not (hopefully with friends). Enjoy the weather before it get's too hot to handle!

Matcha or Macca?

For some time now one customer has been referring to out Matcha latte as a "Macca" Latte ( I tried to spell it how she says it). After much debate between us all at work a few of us looked it up.
She sound an herb by the same spelling. As for myself I stumbled across a web page talking about how "Matcha" is the Canadian way to say it.
After much debate, it makes sense. Ma-ccha is the only way the Japanese can say this variety's name. The "t" is purely our own invention.
On another note, perhaps I am wrong. I am going to be starting regular Japanese lessons in April, I hope to be able to bring this up with Taka-Sensei. Till then, what do you think of these two ways of writing the name of this tea in the American/English language?

Work work and more work

It has been a while since my first purchase of a 60's Playboy which inspired me to create my series for Thesis. After work to day I slipped in to BMV (used book store) to see if they had any chinese classics, tea books etc that might inspire me. Instead I found this trio. Fair collections photography from classic Playboy. I am already looking forward to creating new works steming from this imagery.

I finnaly gave in and bought a small pack to take with me when I study. This weekend I am going to head off to Scarbarough Town Center to (yet again) practice drawing moveing subjects. As well I will be heading to the AGO to make use of the 25 and under free admission that lasts till April 3rd.

Plans are in progress for a proper website/portfolio. This will aid me in applying to Grad School in the near future. Things are a bit mess at my desk but in my studio journal everything is comming together.

This is a current work that seems like it is done, it will stay on my easel for a few days more till I fully deem it "finished". Already I can see a few things that are off and will get fixed soon. Over all I like the peice, a little different from my other charcoal works. I have utilized a sanguine drawing pencil to create a bit more tone in the work. It works well, It may just get adopted into my regular studies for works.
The night is still a bit young I think I shall enjoy yet another cup of tea while watching The Legend of the Condor Heroes (2008 Drama).
